Description.

A bushy or straggling shrub to 2 metres. The leaves are short, narrow and linear. They release a strong, sweet, citrus-like aroma when bruised. The flowers are star-shaped and occur in profuse clusters at the ends of the branches. Typically white, they may have a pinkish tinge in some populations. The bright red calyx persists after the flowers drop and protects the seed.

Propagation.

Seed germinates reasonably well without treatment, though reports vary. Also from cuttings.

Locations.

A dominant species of scrubland on sloping terrain, as in Livingstone NP and The Rock NR. Generally only found in better preserved areas.
